Sometimes a design project is also about gaining consensus amongst a group of people. The design of the MOOG website was first about understanding the structure of the company, understanding the players involved in the project and then designing an information architecture that could accommodate the size of the project.

MOOG is an engineering company that focuses on precision motion control products and systems. We are talking space shuttle, missiles, launch vehicles and wind turbines. Very cool stuff. MOOG is also made up several different companies under one umbrella, each focusing on a different market with different expertise.

The goal of the project was to bring all of the companies together under one easy to use, easy to maintain website. That made understanding who the company is, how to find a product and at the same time satisfying all of the key personnel of each company.

Counterspace first focused on what type of company MOOG was, who they competed with and what their products were. We then listened to everyone at MOOG describe who they thought they were, who their audience was and what a website should accomplish for their company.

At the start of the process everyone was chaotic in their thinking and were unable to see the forest for the trees. Through a series of fact finding meetings, information architecture walk-throughs and design reviews we were able to assist everyone at MOOG to understand that their audience saw them differently than they saw themselves.

The solution was to create a website that brought all of the products to the fingertips of the user, by doing this we were able to showcase the breadth of MOOG solutions across a wide range of industries, retain the history and design a modular design that could be managed by their internal staff.
